Have you become
confused at this Christmas through well meant, but nevertheless useless
advices. As pastor I have
observed that the problem of confusion is often the result of not
knowing or
ignoring the counsel of the Holy Scriptures.
The Lord was and
is that Wonderful Counsellor, Isaiah
wrote about. His counsel was always wise and had the purpose to help
people to
find the ways of God in their life. Jesus could testify of Himself that
He was
wiser than Salomon, (Matthew 12:42). And the people in the synagogue
wondered
where Jesus had all his wisdom from, (Matthew 13:54).
Jesus referred to
the Holy Spirit, who came in His
place, as the Paraclete, the Counsellor. He is just as wonderful in
giving
counsel now, as the Lord was, when he walked on this planet. The Holy
Spirit is
the Inspirer of all wise counsel, that we have in the Holy Scriptures.
Know
this: There is in the Bible much more counsel on all kinds of modern
problems
than many hold for possible. Practical situations can change very often
and of
a great variety, but holy and righteous principles remain forever the
same. The
Wonderful Counsellor leads you to the Scriptures, his Spirit knows as
no other
to handle and open this book. But then you must read the Holy
Scriptures and be
open for its counsel. A wise and practical advice I learned already in
the
Sunday School as we sang: Read your Bible and pray every day, if you
want to
grow.
Do you urgently
need counsel this Christmas, are you
in perplexity? Please sit down, come to rest, take the Bible and pray:
"Wonderful Counsellor, please help me, I need your counsel so urgently.
I
will thank You for the counsel I will receive from You." You know, I
wouldn't be surprised at all if you would receive wonderful counsel
today. His
name is not called for nothing 'Wonderful Counsellor.’

Bent u in deze
Kersttijd in verwarring gekomen door allerlei goede bedoelde, maar
nutteloze
raadgevingen? Als pastor constateer ik ook wel eens het probleem dat
mensen in
verwarring geraken omdat zij de raad, die de Schrift geeft ten aanzien
van hun
probleem, niet kennen of niet opvolgen.
De Heer was
en is de Wonderbare Raadsman over wie Jesaja schreef. Zijn raad was
altijd wijs
en bedoelt om mensen te helpen de weg van God in hun leven te kennen. Jezus kon zelfs getuigen van Zichzelf dat Hij
wijzer was dan Salomo, (Matteüs 12:42). En de mensen in de
synagoge vroegen
verbaasd waar Jezus zijn wijsheid had gekregen, (Matteüs 13:54).
De Heilige
Geest, die in zijn plaats gekomen is, werd door Hem de Parakleet, de
Raadgever
genoemd. Hij is even wonderbaar in het geven van raad nu, als de Heer
toen op
aarde. De Heilige Geest inspireerde alle wijze raad die wij in de
Heilige
Schriften vinden. In de Bijbel vinden we meer en betere raad dan de
wijzen van
deze wereld kunnen produceren met al hun kennis. Er is meer raad te
vinden over
allerlei hedendaagse problematiek dan menigeen denkt. Praktische
situaties
kunnen zeer veranderlijk zijn, maar heilige en rechtvaardige beginselen
niet.
De Wonderbare Raadsman leidt u tot de Schrift, zijn Geest weet dit boek
als
geen ander te hanteren en te openen voor u. U moet het echter dan wel
lezen en
voor zijn raad open staan. Een wijze praktische raad was wat ik al op
jonge
leeftijd op de Zondagsschool leerde:Lees en de Bijbel en bid elke dag
als je
groeien wilt.
