Finding.... God

This Message in the Dutch languageGod laat zich vinden

Many ask in these days the interesting question: "Where is God?" And the next question is usually: "How can I find Him?" Somebody, a learned man, made the interesting statement that 'God is not far from us,' (Acts 17:27). About the meaning of this statement many interesting books have been written. When we think in terms of space and the universe we suggest that God may be dwelling somewhere beyond the stars and that is a long distance from us on this planet.

There are now scientists that are sure that there are other universes than that one in which we live, that are of a kind of energystructure that we cannot observe. But we live in a highly compacted, complicated and compressed structure of energies. The universe with whatever could possibly exist outside of it can be considered as one gigantic system. If we include in this super-universal view heaven and earth, our planet, then we could try to imagine heaven and earth as close together. Please notice now that what the apostle Paul  said in his speech tot the Greek philosophers of his days in Acts 17:28: "For in Him we live and move and have our being,"   fits perfectly well in the modern theories about the universe.

In the light of what we think to know through science about the universe, energies and matter, it becomes an interesting and exciting challenge and search to try to find God and learn to know Him. That's why more and more people are asking: "God, I want to find you and learn to know you."

Personally I believe that finding God is to find the deepest reason for- and meaning of my life. If you find God you make the greatest discovery a man can possibly make. The good news of the Bible and especially of the Gospel is that everyone can find God. God does not play hide-and-seek- is far too serious in this matter. He allows Himself to be found through everyone who seeks Him. That's why the prophet Isaiah wrote in chapter 55:6 of his book: "Seek the LORD while He may be found, cal upon Him while he is near."

As a human being Jesus Christ began also with the search for God because he was emptied of his divinity and had become completely man as all of us are. But because He had a sinless, perfectly on God orientated heart. He undoubtedly found God already very early in His childhood as the great spiritual reality of his live (Philippians 2:6,7; Hebrews 4:15). He too had to walk as a human being the walk of faith in experiencing and maintaining the relationship with God as His Father, that's why He prayed evidently so much and intimate. He knew in a perfect way to the heart of the Father in heaven and learned to know Him better than any other man. It is truly wonderful that he became for all  men the way to the Father. Hear Him say in John 14:6: "I  am the way, and  the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father, but by me."

It is possible that you lost contact with God somewhere on life's troublesome journey. The business in your life, your concentration on so many things that belong to your life and - be honest - the possible laziness to give your true attention to maintaining the contact with God, have had as a result that you lost the contact with God. But now your heart is calling for contact with the living God. You have tried to silence that cry but now it is coming with great power from the depth of your being. It is high time for you then to obey this cry and take time to give all your attention to the most important issue of your life, finding God.

The Bible gives the promise that if you search for God with all your heart, you will surely find Him; please read Isaiah 55: 1-3 and Joel 2:12,13. I urge you to concentrate on the most important search of your life: Finding God and knowing His unconditional, forgiving love through Jesus Christ, His Son. When you find God through and  in Jesus Christ you will discover that you are going to participate in the highest dimension of  existence: eternal life with God.
